Day Eight – Nehalem Bay SP – Pacific City – 110km

The first day of October again was again not what the weatherman ordered.  Despite calls for more sunshine and warmth we started the day with clouds which turned to fog and rain before we were done.
A humourous highlight was a tour of our first cheese factory in Tillamook.  While the shop floor was interesting to see  - and a painful reminder of the monotony of factory line work – we were more impressed with the chocolate milk, fudge, and ice cream that we were able to get our hands on!
We continued to the Three Capes scenic byway hopeful for sunshine or at the least a break in the weather.  We got neither but our climbing and curiousity allowed us to view the impressive Octopus tree and the Cape Mears Lighthouse.

With a potential rainy, cool night at the state park on our intinerary we pushed on to Pacific City for a full service camp-site complete with Laundry, Restaurants and Hottub.  We just finished a stellar meal of Rockfish – on par with the BDA – and Pinot.  Hopefully a restful and raccoon free night.
