Day 7 Fort Stevens SP OR – Nehalem Bay SP – 70km

We started early (for us) with lots to see today.  With the sun in our faces since daybreak we wanted to take advantage.  Today would take near several resort towns on the coast.

Our first stop was the picturesque town of Seaside.  Outfitted for the tourist with several curio shops, restaurants, cafes, and even a large outlet mall.  Knowing we are on weight restrictions we didn’t even think about it – much.  We actually went to the post office to forward some items we didn’t want to get completely rid ourselves of but couldn’t take the extra weight penalty.  I guess it was a bad trip to re-read War and Peace… BOB down to 30 pounds!

The first of several significant climbs took us over to the posh town of Cannon Beach.  While our pictures probably don’t do the scenery justice neither will my writing so enjoy.

The last significant climb took us to the top of Neahkahnie mountain and a stunning view.

The descent was steep and slow.  As a reward for our efforts we enjoyed a late lunch and drink before getting supplies for the evening at our final destination – Nehalem State Park.

We were able to take in the evening on a deserted  beach with the roaring surf and a magnificent sunset.  We had forgotten how different the Pacific Ocean sunsets are.  The sun seems to set the water on fire for several minutes, lighting up the sky in all directions before disappearing at the snap of a finger. Amazing!
