Days of Ice Cream, Cafe con leche, and sleeping in...

Well, well what has been happening in the last two months...

Right now we're taking some time to relax and rest after what has been a very long season. Our decision to race the 1/2 IM in April meant training began in earnest January 1 and this combined with the marathon BBA schedule, Grand Prix, and then CCC in Barbados created a taxing season.

The CCC in Barbados was extremely rewarding as both Dee and I looked at it as the last chance to ride in the Bermuda color in international competition. Dee won the Gold Medal (again!) in the Time Trial with a commanding performance. I managed to make the podium again with a bronze medal. We didn't fare as well in the road race with Dee falling ill from the dreaded flying fish disease while I put in about 55 miles before cramping up and calling it a day.

The island of Barbados is beautiful, one that we could definitely see ourselves visiting again. Distinctive terrain as you wandered both from North to South and East to West. Windy conditions and lower than expected humidity made the heat bearable.

The weekend in Boston for next post...

Bill is indecisive

Looks like Bill may spare us a direct hit at this point.  Relief.  Although making it through your first hurricane makes for good dinner conversation with our family and friends on the mainland its not something we'd really like to repeat.  Again.  First Fabian on 03' and Florence in 06'; hmm I notice a 3 year pattern here; gulp!

Flyin'

After a return to the bikes follows our European sojourn we had a hard return to training this week.  It was fun however to reconnect with Adam, Brian, Dave, and Norby as we were getting some quality workouts together in June with no BS; Get on your bike, step on the gas and go.

Sunday was my first TT in the season series and just Dee's third. Expectations are always high but tempered by the fact that we really hadn't done any hard training in a month - unless you count those mountain passes in Europe - and still another month till the next hard racing.

However the day was great for a TT; slight headwind down and tailwind back. We both nailed it and I was two ticks better than the course record I set last year while Dee just missed the course record by a second.  Who says wine, cheese, and bread is a bad training diet?

Great Trip

Back on the rock after 17 amazing days in France, Italy, and Switzerland.  We were truly lucky to be able to plan  -well Dee plan - this trip.  So many highlights as listed in previous blogs but what resonates in these small little towns we spent time in is the priority bent on 'slowing down'.  Although to ourselves we appear to try and take life slow its not until you see others in their environment that you realize how frenetic your own life has become.  Hail to Slow Food, good wine, and laughter!
