Our arrival in LA coincided with the Halloween weekend. We were indoctrinated on the significance of the Pumpkin Patch over the last 10 days of riding from San Francisco. Clearly, the day holds special importance and marks the beginning of late year revelry (Thanksgiving, Christmas).
We were introduced to ‘Tin Tin’ by Brandon, Nick and Ellen’s 11-year-old boy. He enjoyed referring to us as ‘The Thomsons’ – The cartoon’s version of the Keystone Cops – even taking the time to find us matching outfits to wear Halloween evening.
After a rest day on Saturday Nick took us out for a bike ride on Halloween morning. I think he was determined to punish me (and Dee) for the all the hard workouts I had been giving him over the past months. It was a great way to view the surrounding valleys in their city.

It was an entertaining night watching the little one parade around the neighborhood while we handed out candy and enjoyed the very warm weather. I partook in more than enough bite-sized treats and has promised to turn over a new dietary leaf on November 1. Good luck!
On Monday we made the tour into Hollywood to hopefully rub elbows with the stars and see the sights. We strolled down the walk of fame, matched hand and footprints and the Chinese theatre, and took the obligatory photos of the ‘Hollywood’ sign.

With so much to see on the sidewalk and in the air we completely missed our chance to hobnob with the stars. I was feeling a little ‘green’ after all last night’s junk food but Dee posed with me anyway…
We cruised through Beverly Hills where Nick assured us that the houses were not that impressive. An opportunity to experience some authentic LA Freeway gridlock finished off the day.
We found ourselves catching up on some much needed sleep, for going an opportunity to ride back over the mountains to the beach in favor of a trip to the bookstore down the street and an afternoon by the pool.
