We are presently in La Paz, Bolivia (altitude 3700m). The headaches and lethargy of high altitude living has finally subsided after ten days and we have really enjoyed this colorful city, the world's highest capital. The city is shaped like a giant soup bowl with building clinging to each mountain side at impossible angles. Unfortunately, the internet is slowing our blogging progress so more on each at a later date.
We started with amazing 5 day tour of the Salar de Uyuni - the World's Largest Salt Flats. The flats were spectacular along with the impressive Antiplano.
Yesterday we descended the 'World's Most Dangerous Road'. 70km of downhill mountain biking, most on narrow gravel roads, descending 3400m in 4 hours. The scenery was amazing and the road reasonably safe, except when Dee lost her front brake! Truthfully the scarier bit was the return by van to La Paz. Argentine drivers seem pretty safe by comparison.
We toured the famous Sunday market today. Everything on offer from an entire city block of bananas and plantains, whole pigs, knock-off designers shoes, and of course dried Llama fetuses. All this well a parade snaked through the overflowing streets. Stimulus overload!
Our afternoon was spent at a Latin American football game between La Paz Strongest and San Jose. The talent level certainly did not match the passion of the fans. A good investment at $1.50 a ticket!
We are off to hike in the Andes before moving onto Lake Titicaca and Peru. 3 weeks to Machu Picchu
